Why should I order a cake from you?
Gosh, you don't HAVE to....but if you CHOOSE to, you will be guaranteed the loveliest most delicious cake that I am capable of doing. Since my business consists of only me, you are assured of getting the utmost professionalism because I really know what I'm doing. Not only that, I'm darn friendly too.
How do I order a cake?
You can e-mail me, or call my business phone number at The Village Baker (360) 379-5310, Monday thru Friday, 9:30 am to 5 pm. If you 're not sure you want to order, and want more info, just call or email me for info or a price quote. I also have an email address at the Village Baker, which is anniewelch@qwest.net.
Unfortunately due to time constraints and my workload, I am unable to create sculpted or elaborate cakes such as the ones featured here. I can, however, create a beautiful cake to fit your occasion.
How far in advance do I need to order?
There's no such thing as ordering too early! My advice is to order as early as possible to guarantee getting a cake for your special day. My workload is determined by the number and complexity of cakes in a given week and some weeks can sell out early...especially during wedding season (April thru September). Last minute ordering? I try to accomodate, but due to the nature of my work, advance planning is a must. I'll never be in the "drive-through" business, let me tell you that. However, if you haven't planned ahead, and I can do something for you, believe me, I will. But if you call me today to order a sculpted castle for tomorrow, it's just not gonna happen.....capiche?
Why isn't there a list of cake flavors and fillings?
I don't have a set repertoire of flavors or fillings. I will basically make whatever type of cake you wish to have. Except Red Velvet. See My Philosophy for more on that. Black forest? German chocolate? Chiffon? Angel food? Carrot cake? Yep. No problem. Jam fillings, custard fillings, mousse fillings, buttercream fillings, ganache fillings.... I do all those too. Everybody has such different ideas about what makes a good tasting cake that I let YOU tell ME what you want!
Some important things to know......
I am a former full-time cake designer by trade. Now, cakes are just PART of what I do rather than ALL I do. I am responsible for lot of the pastries and desserts at the Village Baker in Poulsbo, Washington, so I can't take as many cake orders as I used to.
I can't emphasize enough.......plan ahead....book early....book early....book early! It's the best way I can guarantee I will be able to do your cake!!!
Why aren't there any prices shown?
Because they're free! Ha! Gotcha! No, it's because every cake I do is so customized, they all have their own prices. Price is dependent upon number of servings, what kind of materials are used for the art work, labor time, certain cake flavors, special ingredients, research, and whether or not I have to build a special stand or buy a larger cake board. By far, the biggest cost-determining factor is labor. The longer it takes to do it, the more expensive it is. Wedding cake prices start at $3.50 per serving. Please see additional pricing info, below.
Where are you located?
I am located in bee-yoo-tiful Port Townsend, Washington...how great is that?!?!
Do you ship cakes? Do you deliver?
Some other cake shops may ship cakes, but I don't. I stand behind and guarantee complete satisfaction with my work, and frankly, if I brought "Brown" or "FedEx" into the equation, I couldn't guarantee anything. Too much can go wrong in the cake transportation department. No one but me or the customers themselves are allowed to handle my cakes!
Yes, I do deliver! There is an extra charge for that, and it's determined by how far I go. How far do I go? Generally, the Olympic Peninsula area only. These days it just gets too costly to go any farther...especially when you have to take a ferry!
More on pricing.
As you can see by perusing my cake photos, that what I do is very specialized.....you don't see these kinds of cakes in your bakery down the street, most likely. It's important to know also, that the cakes I do are very very labor intensive, and they take a LOT of time. Some cakes take me a week to construct. Because of this, they can be quite pricey. My supplies and ingredients are expensive, and, as they say, time is money.
If you are on a tight budget, I'm probably not the cake designer you seek. For most occasions, your local baker can provide you a lovely cake to meet your needs. But if you are looking for that "special something" that will exceed all expectations and don't mind spending a little extra, then please, contact me. Thank you.....
